I.S. 118X – William W. Niles Junior High School

Library Upgrade

The pre-existing, undersized library was part of the original school built in 1939 and was in poor condition. The Principal requested a “21st century” library that would facilitate learning for students with laptop computers as well as books. The new library was enlarged by 50% with a separate librarian work area, conference area for 10-20 persons, and built-in shelving/furniture. Additionally there is a raised reading platform with operable privacy screens for smaller groups
in addition to the main reading area, suitable for 30-35 persons. With all new finishes such as an acoustical ceiling, lighting fixtures, flooring, and window treatment, the new library is transformed into a place of modern learning.
